People really are pulling together these days to help out the animals during hard economic times. No body likes the thought of a poor doggie or kitten going hungry. Just as they don’t like the thought of a person going hungry. So, people are taking action.
In Milford, Michigan the Rotary Club is holding a food drive entitled, ‘Fill a Truck…Fill a Need.” For the holiday season the club will have a couple of trucks parked in a local Auto Lot where people can leave donations of food for both people and pets. The smaller vehicle is open for donations of dog and cat food, both dry and canned. The second vehicle is open for donations of people food.
During the food drive the Rotary Club will have additional pet food donation sites set up at local veterinarian offices, the Milford Veterinary Clinic, Pet Supplies Plus and Highland Feed. All of the donations will be distributed to pets of those people who turn to the Community Sharing Outreach Center for assistance.
Julie Hass, DVM, said that providing food for pets helps ensure they’ll get balanced diets, ‘Pets are an important part of a family, providing a service to children and seniors, and can be a great comfort in stressful times. This can help provide the food needed to maintain those pets and their quality of life, and that maintains support to families, keeping the family structure together for awhile.’
The Rotary Club isn’t the only group looking to help the animals. Students at the local high school and middle school are running their own food drive called, ‘Toys for Paws fundraiser’ that involved collecting food, toys, leashes, treats and other items for pets. All of the donations will be given to the Michigan Animal Rescue League for homeless cats and dogs.
